On July 4, 2006, after a family BBQ in the
backyard and accompanied by the
annual fireworks show held by The Briar
Patch, a nearby golf course, Robert A
Webb, 44, was killed in a police involved
shooting at his residence in Raleigh
County, WV.
Rob was playing music and shooting
firecrackers and his weapon up in the air
in celebration, as is customary in many
parts of this country. A feuding neighbor
jumped at the chance for revenge and
dialed the non-emergency number for the
Sheriff's Department to report that Rob
had been firing a pistol, he had not shot
in a while and she only wanted a patrol
vehicle to drive by his house. His
punishment for shooting a weapon in
celebration of this holiday was death.
Read on to learn more about Rob's life
and what happened the night Amy Smith
made that dreadful phone call.
Instead of choosing non-lethal methods
of force in their response, the deputies
opted for a 40 Glock and 12 gauge
shotgun with .00 buckshot. Rob didn't
have a chance.
